At least not for me.

We've been working on several warm weather herbal beverages. Our newest is Lemon and Sweet Rose Tisane, which is a delightful and surprising combination of lemon balm, lemon peel, red rose petals, and a sprinkle of vanilla. It's lovely hot, but even more sparkly when served over ice.

We've also created a Triple Berry Antioxidant Tisane, equally as delicious served iced. It contains elder berries (a Sage and Daisy favorite!), Hawthorn berries, and rose hips. Kids love this one! They don'tknow it's not Kool Aid, with it's deep reddish purple color and berry flavor.

Want to create your own chilled herbal brew? Some herbs that taste great cold are hibiscus, lemon balm, lemongrass, peppermint, raspberry leaf, and spearmint. Once you become more comfortable with mixing tasty herbal blends, you can add bits of dried fruits for even more zing! Have fun, experiment, and if you come up with a great blend we need to know about, let us know!

Summertime Hibiscus Punch

It's a gloomy day weatherwise here in KC, but that doesn't stop me from dreaming about the sunny warmth of Summer. Today, in anticipation of the great weather to come, I am sipping on one of my favorite summer drinks, Hibiscus Punch. This yummy beverage is high in vitamin C, and the kids will love it. Here's how I do it:

Heat 1 cup water, 2 cups sugar, and a handful of dried hibiscus (you can also add a handful of dried goji berries for extra antioxidant power, I do!) over medium heat, stirring, until all sugar has dissolved. Remove from heat and allow to steep for about 5 minutes or so.
Strain the bright red liquid into a pitcher, add half a cup of lemon juice, and fill the rest of the way with water. Stir, and you're done! Delicious!

Josephine update

Just wanted to share a recent picture of my beautiful Josephine. I'm working on clove sachets, lavender eye pillows, and a couple of surprises for later.

I've so missed my sewing machine. Sometimes I get so caught up in the day to day work at the shop that I forget to enjoy the creating process. It's nice to work on projects "just for me", and today I am enjoying that luxury. I'm working on cute aprons to wear to work (and maybe a few extras to make available in the shop!)

The bird and nest soaps (shown above) always make me smile.

Limited Edition Teas from 52Teas

Sage and Daisy is proud to announce that we now carry limited edition teas from 52Teas. Every week, we will offer a very limited edition of a new tea. Can you tell I'm very excited about this new product? A brand new, limited edition tea to look forward to EVERY SINGLE WEEK!!! Our first featured tea is Decaf Black Currant. As I sit here and write this post, I am sipping my own cup. And let me tell you, IT IS AMAZING!!! I'm a big fan of fruity flavored teas, and this one is perfect in every way.

Here's what 52Teas has to say about their decaf black currant: "So, I’ve been hearing a lot of people talking about caffeine lately and I’ve seen a few online discussions purporting that there are no good decaffeinated teas out there. So, I decided it was time we fixed that.
Here’s some premium decaffeinated Nilgiri and Assam teas from India blended with dried black currants, a few marigold petals and natural black currant flavor. If you enjoyed our Black Currant Bai Mu Dan, you should love this too. I think I’ll have a big icy mug of this myself. " (from http://www.52teas.com/)

We have an EXTREMELY limited amount of each week's tea, so if you would like your own package, email me at sageanddaisykc@yahoo.com or call the shop at 816-421-1101 so I can set one aside for you.

Happy sipping!

Relaxing January

I always look forward to January. The hustle and bustle of the holidays is over, and the promise of a new year and new beginnings is so inviting. Tonight I am reflecting on 2010, and getting excited about 2011.

My end of the day ritual includes sitting with my journal, a beautiful pen, and a delicious cup of tea. Writing helps me center and focus on what is important, and release what I no longer want to carry. I love writing lists of ideas, feelings, and dreams. Tonight I am participating in this activity with a beautiful new journal given to me as a gift, and a cup of our new ImmortaliTea.

It's a lovely scented tea, very strong lemon smell.

Immortalitea presents a powerhouse of herbs and tea to give you your best shot! While the health benefits of green tea are well known, rosemary is also renowned for its anti-aging properties; sage, a sister to rosemary, is a similarly famous panacea of positive health effects. With a lemony twist, Immortalitea’s pale yellow cup is warm and friendly.

The ingredients are Gunpowder green tea, rosemary, sage, safflower, rose petals, with lemon and rose flavor. I think this is quickly becoming my favorite!

What is your end of the day ritual? I would love to hear about it!

Fresh from the farm

<img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; We love them!

Those of you who know me personally, know that at heart I've always been a farmgirl. I love to garden, I love to bake, and I love simplicity. So I decided to add some things to the store that reflect this. Mainly because it makes me smile to see the sweet cow and goat faced soaps sitting on the shelves.

The herbal section of Sage and Daisy also brings a smile to my face. I love the honest simplicity of the plants, dried and ready to make flavorful teas, helpful balms, and other helpful projects. I love that the herbs have so much to offer, and so much to teach us. I love the smell, the feel, and the look of the herbs sitting patiently on the shelves, just waiting to assist however we need.

What's making you smile today?

Today's sweet post

Today I thought I would post some random sweets from the shop. I love our sweet soaps line. I greatly enjoy the other items in the store such as the lotions, the hot process soaps, the herbs......but the sweet glycerin soaps have a special place in my heart. They're fun, they make people smile, and they are a true treat. When you use one of our cupcake soaps you can't help but feel pampered. Plus, they look so dang cute on your sink or tub while they are waiting to be used. What could be sweeter?

Enlightment

So I'm surviving this bedrest, and it has been a very enlightening experience. After all, I do have a website to finish, plenty of crocheting to do before I debut my winter hat and scarf line, and tons of other behind the scenes type work to keep my mind and hands plenty busy. This is also an opportunity to learn to give up control. Even though I have the best team on earth helping me make Sage and Daisy the success that it is, I miss orchestrating the everyday activities in the shop. I like being in charge. This is an opportunity to step back and trust in the capable people around me, and let someone else take care of things for a while. It's a learning experience, and I hope I'm up for this challenge. I'm sure my guys (and sweet daughter, who has been oh so helpful) are sick of me calling the shop upwards of 10 times a day, but they know I mean well. I miss my sweet store.

Macaroons! and baby update

Our newest, prettiest soaps ever: Gorgeous Macaroon cookie soaps! $4.50 each. Baby Josephine is doing great, getting big and very active! I swear this baby never sleeps, and she has a very strong kick. However, it looks like I will be on bed rest until Josie arrives, which should be October. I will miss my store so much, and I will especially miss my sweet and loyal customers. You all are the reason I do what I do, your smiles and encouraging comments every day mean the world to me. I will still be working on Sage and Daisy, just behind the scenes for a little while. Casey and David will be there, and I know the store is in very capable hands. I have the best men in the world working hard to make this store as fabulous as possible, so show them some love when you're visiting Sage and Daisy. I don't know what I would do without these guys.

Have a lovely day!

Cupcake Bath Bombs!

I also wanted to announce.....cupcake bath bombs from Dirty Laundry are now available at Sage and Daisy! If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn't be done, and he did it.

Somebody scoffed: "Oh, you'll never do that;
At least no one ever has done it";
But he took off his coat and he took off his hat,
And the first thing we knew he'd begun it.
With a lift of his chin and a bit of a grin,
Without any doubting or quiddit,
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn't be done, and he did it.

There are thousands to tell you it cannot be done,
There are thousands to prophesy failure;
There are thousands to point out to you, one by one,
The dangers that wait to assail you.
But just buckle in with a bit of a grin,
Just take off your coat and go to it;
Just start to sing as you tackle the thing
That "cannot be done," and you'll do it.”
-Edgar A. Guest

That is one of my favorite poems. When I first started this soapy adventure, there were so many well-meaning negative nellies (and some not so well meaning). Friends, even family members, would say "Are you sure you should do this? Maybe you should just find a stable job with benefits." One especially negative family member even said, "I'll be happy for you after you succeed. For now, let's just see how this works out". I know they just wanted to keep me safe, but it is still disheartening to hear. I wanted my loved ones to be as excited as I was, to see my vision, and to be supportive.

Taking the risk of going into business for myself was the best decision I have ever made. I have never questioned it, and I have never regretted it. Even in the scariest of moments, when the cash was not flowing in and the bills were piling up, we kept doing the work, knowing it would work out somehow. The "how" part was not up to us, our only responsibility was to keep doing the work. So we did it. And every year has gotten bigger and better for lil' old Sage and Daisy. It couldn't be done, but we did it.

Above is a picture of our Apple Mint Oatmeal soap. It is my favorite summer soap because it is cooling, sweet, and refreshing. The addition of oatmeal helps soothe skin that is ravaged by heat, sun, and bug bites.

Welcome to our Blog!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_XOXM9HylepQ/TFortadqlfI/AAAAAAAAAAw/jJFfXL8Pd8o/s320/111.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5501757953984337394" />
Welcome to Sage and Daisy's blog!
